ExtrArtis ha creato un dialogo e uno scambio tra gli Artisti Selezionati @robert_hromec e @davideserpetti e la comunità locale, favorendo il coinvolgimento dell’identità collettiva nel loro processo creativo. Ciò è avvenuto attraverso l’organizzazione del workshop “Approcci partecipativi: sperimentazioni di community involvement finalizzate a valorizzare l’identità culturale comune”, che ha consentito di restituire dei risultati di valore scientifico oltre che socio-culturale. ExtrArtis, infatti, ha affidato la conduzione delle attività di partecipazione all’Arch. PhD Francesca Nocca, Ricercatrice presso il Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, ed all’Arch. PhD Martina Bosone, Assegnista di Ricerca presso l’Istituto di Ricerca su Innovazione e Servizi per lo Sviluppo del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche.
ExtrArtis created a dialogue and exchange between the Selected Artists @robert_hromec and @davideserpetti and the local community, fostering the involvement of collective identity in their creative process. This took place through the organisation of the workshop “Participatory approaches: experiments in community involvement aimed at enhancing the common cultural identity”, which yielded results of scientific as well as socio-cultural value. ExtrArtis, in fact, entrusted the conduction of the participatory activities to Arch. PhD Francesca Nocca @francesca_nocca, Researcher at the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples Federico II @uninait, and Arch. PhD Martina Bosone @martbos, Researcher Fellow at the Research Institute on Innovation and Development Services of the National Research Council (CNR – IRISS).
ExtrArtis ha deciso di offrire ai giovani studenti del locale Liceo Artistico Musicale Francesco Grandi di Sorrento una giornata didattica dedicata alla crescita formativa e allo sviluppo dello scenario artistico della Penisola Sorrentina.
Gli studenti sono stati protagonisti di una visita guidata alla residenza, volta a migliorare la consapevolezza dei valori del proprio territorio d’origine e la riscoperta del genius loci. Successivamente essi sono stati stakeholders di un processo partecipativo di matrice scientifica universitaria attraverso cui è stato possibile conoscere la loro percezione, qualitativa e ad ampia scala, del potenziale artistico di rigenerazione territoriale.
ExtrArtis decided to offer the young students of the local Liceo Artistico Musicale Francesco Grandi in Sorrento a school day dedicated to the educational growth and development of the artistic scenario of the Sorrento Peninsula.
The students were the protagonists of a guided tour of the ExtrArtis residence, aimed at improving awareness of the values of their territory and the rediscovery of the genius loci. Subsequently they were stakeholders in a participatory process of university scientific matrix through which it was possible to learn about their perception, qualitative and large-scale, of the artistic potential for territorial regeneration.
La Penisola Sorrentina ha attratto nel corso della sua storia artisti, mecenati e grandi personaggi di cultura come scrigno di ricchezza paesaggistica. Data tale morfologica propensione ad essere una “terrazza sul mare”, ExtrArtis coinvolge gli artisti selezionati @davideserpetti e @robert_hromec in un percorso tra i più emozionanti punti panoramici del territorio. Passeggiate naturalistiche nei luoghi prospicenti il mare, che hanno ispirato e si sono fatti leggenda nei racconti e nei miti di coloro che nei secoli hanno narrato la propria fascinazione per tali bellezze.
Throughout its history, the Sorrento Peninsula has attracted artists, patrons and great personalities of culture as a treasure trove of scenic richness. Given its morphological propensity to be a ‘terrace on the sea’, ExtrArtis involves its selected artists @davideserpetti and @robert_hromec in a journey through the most exciting viewpoints in the area. Naturalistic walks in places overlooking the sea, which have inspired and become legendary in the tales and myths of those who over the centuries have narrated their fascination with such beauty.
Il progetto ExtrArtis ha coinvolto i maestri intarsiatori di Sorrento per avvicinare l’arte contemporanea al comparto. Degli oltre 700 maestri artigiani della città ne restano solo 15 a custodire questo simbolo identitario. Pertanto, ExtrArtis ha lavorato alla costruzione di un’esperienza di scambio tra gli artisti contemporanei del progetto e gli artigiani del luogo. Ciò ha rappresentato una traccia da seguire per tramandare la tecnica della tarsia, candidata ad essere patrimonio della cultura immateriale @unesco.
The ExtrArtis project involved Sorrento’s master inlayers in order to bring contemporary art closer to the sector. Of the over 700 master craftsmen in the city, only 15 remain to guard this identity symbol. Therefore, ExtrArtis worked on the construction of an exchange experience between the project’s contemporary artists and local craftsmen. This provided a trail to follow in order to hand down the inlay technique, a candidate to be @unesco intangible cultural heritage.
ExtrArtis ha come missione anche quella di generare un dialogo tra gli artigiani del territorio e gli artisti selezionati. ExtrArtis, considerando gli artigiani come gli ultimi custodi dell’identità culturale di un luogo, affida allo scambio tra essi e gli artisti selezionati, @davideserpetti e @robert_hromec , la capacità di veicolare alle nuove generazioni il genius loci, tramandandolo in chiave contemporanea. Per rendere indimenticabile il periodo di residenza d’artista, ExtrArtis ha organizzato per gli artisti una serie di visite guidate nelle botteghe artigiane che custodiscono gli elementi identitari del territorio di Residenza d’Artista. La prima tappa è stata la visita nel centenario agrumeto dei @igiardinidicataldo , scopriamo insieme come gli artisti sono stati ispirati da questa esperienza!
ExtrArtis’ mission is to generate a dialogue between local artisans and selected artists. ExtrArtis, considering the artisans as the last guardians of the cultural identity of a place, entrusts to the exchange between them and the selected artists, @davideserpetti and @robert_hromec , the ability to convey the genius loci to the new generations, handing it down in a contemporary key. To make the period of artist’s residence unforgettable, ExtrArtis has organized for the artists a series of guided tours in the artisan workshops that preserve the identity elements of the territory of Residenza d’Artista. Tra le maestranze della Penisola Sorrentina coinvolte dal progetto ExtrArtis per valorizzare lo scambio artistico tra “i custodi del genius loci” e gli artisti selezionati @robert_hromec e @davideserpetti , non potevano mancare i maestri d’ascia.
Le marine della costiera sorrentina, note agli antichi come terre di naviganti e sirene, affidano il proprio sapere a questi artigiani, ultimi baluardi della produzione delle barche di legno: i “gozzi sorrentini”. Un sapere che giunge fino ai giorni nostri e che si tramanda da oltre due millenni come testimoniano i versi che il poeta Catullo recitava “La barca che vedete, ospiti, dice Che fu la più veloce d’ogni nave, e mai slancio di legno navigante le passò avanti, fosse necessario volare col remeggio o con la vela.”
Among the craftsmen of the Sorrentine Peninsula involved in the ExtrArtis project to enhance the artistic exchange between ‘the custodians of the genius loci’ and the selected artists @robert_hromec and @davideserpetti , the shipwrights could not be missing.
The marinas of the Sorrento coast, known to the ancients as the land of sailors and mermaids, entrust their knowledge to these craftsmen, the last bastions of the production of wooden boats: the ‘gozzi sorrentini’. This knowledge has been handed down to the present day for more than two millennia, as testified by the verses that the poet Catullus recited: “The boat you see, guests, says it was the swiftest of all ships, and never did any sailor’s wood pass her by, whether it was necessary to fly with the oar or with the sail.
ExtrArtis ha organizzato un percorso tra le costellazioni, consentendo agli artisti selezionati un’esperienza di grande ispirazione. Illuminati dalla Via Lattea e persi tra le stelle, dove i naviganti diventano sognatori, ExtrArtis ha ripercorso i miti dell’antichità e degli eroi odissei che hanno segnato la storia dell’identità culturale della Penisola Sorrentina e dell’intero mondo antico. Su Monte San Costanzo, gli artisti hanno ascoltato le spiegazioni dei miti e della caratterizzazione dell’antica Via Minervia.
ExtrArtis organised a journey through the constellations, allowing the selected artists an inspiring experience. Illuminated by the Milky Way and lost among the stars, where sailors become dreamers, ExtrArtis retraced the myths of antiquity and the Odyssean heroes that marked the history of the cultural identity of the Sorrento Peninsula and the entire ancient world. On Monte San Costanzo, the artists listened to explanations of the myths and characterisation of the ancient Via Minervia.
ExtrArtis organizza durante il periodo di residenza degli eventi dedicati agli artisti selezionati e rendendoli partecipi di momenti unici, ripetendo le forme di accoglienza del Grand Tour e le operazioni di mecenatismo culturale. In occasione della prima edizione di ExtrArtis è stato organizzato il concerto di musica classica intitolato “sulle note del mito” per omaggiare gli artisti selezionati dal progetto e per avvicinare la comunità residente alla riscoperta dei legami tra arte visiva, musica e territorio.
ExtrArtis organises events during the residency period dedicated to the selected artists, making them participate in unique moments, repeating the forms of Grand Tour reception and cultural patronage operations.
On the occasion of the first edition of ExtrArtis, a classical music concert entitled “On the Notes of Myth” was organised to pay tribute to the artists selected by the project and to bring the resident community closer to rediscovering the links between visual art, music and the territory.
Tra i meravigliosi eventi organizzati da ExtrArtis durante il periodo di residenza dei suoi artisti selezionati, le proiezioni cinematografiche all’aperto rappresentano un viaggio nel passato. Sotto le stelle, nella splendida cornice del Relais La Rupe la comunità e gli artisti sono stati entusiasti spettatori di “Miti e paesaggi della penisola sorrentina” e “l’Architettura della Penisola Sorrentina” (Regia di Roberto Pane e Musiche di Renzo Rossellini). Cortometraggi che hanno fatto da cornice all’incredibile esibizione di danza della Tarantella Sorrentina eseguita dalle ballerine della Scuola The Plunge. Questo tipo di tarantella, a differenza di quella napoletana e siciliana, veniva eseguita dinanzi ai nobili come segno di accoglienza nel territorio durante le manifestazioni del Grand Tour europeo.
Among the marvellous events organised by ExtrArtis during the residency period of its selected artists, the open-air film screenings represented a journey into the past. Under the stars, in the splendid setting of the Relais La Rupe, the community and artists were enthusiastic spectators of ‘Myths and Landscapes of the Sorrento Peninsula’ and ‘The Architecture of the Sorrento Peninsula’ (directed by Roberto Pane and music by Renzo Rossellini). Short films framed the incredible dance performance of the Tarantella Sorrentina performed by the dancers of The Plunge School. This type of tarantella, unlike the Neapolitan and Sicilian Tarantella, was performed in front of nobles as a sign of welcome to the area during the events of the European Grand Tour.
La Villa di Pollio Felice, è un sito archeologico situato sul promontorio di Punta Capo a Sorrento, lungo la costa dell’Area Marina Protetta di Punta Campanella. Il sito, nel corso della storia, è stato sede di villeggiatura tra il 1371 e il 1435 della Regina Giovanna II d’Angió-Durazzo. ExtrArtis con la sua attività ha cercato di valorizzare un contesto archeologico e paesaggistico di altissimo pregio dando la possibilità agli artisti selezionati di immergersi nella storia di Sorrento e d’Europa.
The Villa di Pollio Felice, is an archaeological site located on the promontory of Punta Capo in Sorrento, along the coast of the Protected Marine Area of Punta Campanella. Throughout history, the site was the holiday residence of Queen Giovanna II d’Angió-Durazzo between 1371 and 1435. Through its activities, ExtrArtis sought to enhance an archaeological and landscape context of the highest value, giving selected artists the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of Sorrento and Europe.
ExtrArtis accompagna gli artisti selezionati in un percorso dedito ad approfondire il proprio rapporto con l’infinito attraverso paesaggi dominati dal cielo. L’armonizzante passeggiata sulla vetta del Monte San Costanzo, all’estremità della Penisola Sorrentina, ha consentito di riconciliare lo sguardo con lo spirito, prospettando su una veduta che spazia dal golfo di Napoli a quello di Salerno. Attraversando la piccola pineta si giunge alla modesta chiesetta dedicata a San Costanzo: lì, sulla cima, si può sentire il “sublime” – nella sua accezione romantica ottocentesca – venendo pervasi dallo stato d’animo misto di sgomento e piacere percepito dall’uomo quando diviene consapevole della stupefacente grandiosità della natura.
ExtrArtis accompanies the selected artists on a journey dedicated to deepening their relationship with the infinite through landscapes dominated by the sky. The harmonising walk to the summit of Monte San Costanzo, at the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula, reconciled the gaze with the spirit, overlooking a view stretching from the Gulf of Naples to that of Salerno. Crossing the small pine forest, one reaches the modest little church dedicated to San Costanzo: there, on the summit, one can feel the ‘sublime’ – in its 19th-century romantic meaning – being pervaded by the mixed state of mind of dismay and pleasure perceived by man when he becomes aware of the astonishing grandeur of nature.
